Vital, rare old grape variety

Delicious dry white wine from Portugal. This wine is made from Vital, a rare old grape variety. Vital was used in blends to give wine more freshness. Casal Figueira shows that Vital also produces a surprisingly beautiful wine as a single variety. Looks a bit like Chenin blanc but is Portuguese idiosyncratic.

Antonio was the winemaker who made Vital shine again. This wine is subtle, intriguing, elegant, with a lot of tension. Unique and downright delicious. Biodynamic wine from old vines with low yields.

Taste
Subtle start but then this Vital comes through with tension and elegance. Tightly dry but also round. Fine white fruit, lick of butter, bitters and acids. Serve approx. 10-12 C. Drink: now until 2027+
