Beaujolais Villages, Elisa Guerin, remember that name

Gamay from 60 year old vines planted on blue slate, sandy granite and limestone. The vineyards are located on a north-facing slope on the border of Moulin-a-Vent and Chénas . This wine is made naturally by Elisa. This is her second vintage.

In concrete tanks, the Gamay grapes undergo carbonic maceration with whole bunches ( macération carbonique , whereby a little alcohol is created in the grape itself). After 8 days, they are pressed and transferred to stainless steel tanks for further spontaneous fermentation.
This is followed by 8 months of maturation to come to rest without filtration. The wine is bottled in the spring at the new moon. This is a 'technique' from biodynamics . At bottling, minimal sulphite is added. The wine is then bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Terroir wine

Elisa's goal is to reflect the terroir of granite, limestone and slate as much as possible in her Gamay. A precise balance of elegance, concentration and purity of fruit. With an underlying minerality that is incredibly well preserved even in a hot vintage. This is above all a true pleasure to drink.

With a strong focus on environmental impact, Elisa Guerin also wants to improve the landscape and stimulate biodiversity . For example, by planting hedges and fruit trees. She is also experimenting with new methods of fertilization. Among other things, using plant extracts. There will also be some white grape varieties appearing alongside all that Gamay. By planting Aligoté and Melon de Bourgogne (known for the Muscadet wine from the Loire).

Elisa Guerin comes from a family of winemakers and grape growers in Beaujolais. Her family has a small plot in Moulin-à-Vent and a winery in Chènas . In 2019 she made her first wines. A Beaujolais-Villages and one from a plot in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation known as "Les Thorins". The Beaujolais-Villages 2020 is 100% Gamay from the village of Quincié.
