The Pinot Gris , planted in 1987, is located on the upper part of the Kapfensteiner Kogel . This volcanic vineyard, known for its balanced fruit and minerality, together with the spontaneous fermentation in 300-litre oak barrels, followed by a harmonisation period of 9 months on the fine lees, form the basis for this structured wine.

The Winkler-Hermaden winery is located on top of an old volcano near the village of Kapfenstein . The castle on top is also a hotel with a great restaurant. The view is phenomenal! The vineyards are located around the castle. They also have plots in the valley, near the village of Kloch.

The volcanic soil provides a unique style with a lot of minerality in the wines. Try the sublime Sauvignon blancs for example. Winkler-Hermaden also has its own oak forests from which they make the wine barrels. The pores of the oak are so fine that their barrels are even better than the best French wine barrels!
