Spätburgunder Forstberg Erste Lage
The Lage Ahrweiler Forstberg is located between the villages of Ahrweiler and Bad Neuenahr, on the north side of the Ahr river. The vineyards are higher up on the slope with exposure to the south. Next to it is the equally well-known Lage Rosenthal, where Bertram-Baltes also makes wine.
The Forstberg has a soil of slate (from the Devonian) with sandstone and loam (Grauwacke). The Spätburgunder vines are now over 40 years old and from an Ahr clone locally called 'Stuber', planted by Julia Bertram's grandfather.
Unclarified, unfiltered
The spontaneous fermentation and maturation take place in old large barrels (foeders) of German oak, 50% is new. After 15 months on wood, the wine rests for another 3 months on stainless steel. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered , like all Bertram-Baltes wines. Since the 2019 harvest, Bertram-Baltes has been a certified organic winery.
