Pinot Noir Satzen Reserve, Malat 2017 . Classic Pinot Noir but from Austria: Kremstal. Great wine ! Red wine with ripe red and black fruit, light smoke tone, civilized use of wood, ripe tannins. Malat is not only very good with Veltliner and Riesling, his Pinot Noirs are also great. Also try the Pinot Noir Ried Satzen.

Pinot Noir Satzen Reserve, the red empress of Malat
For Malat, this wine is his red empress. A very big wine. The 'normal' wine from the Ried (vineyard) Satzen is his queen (we have that wine too). The grapes are picked by hand. The fermentation is spontaneous and temperature-controlled. After the malolactic fermentation, 12-18 months of maturation follow on large wood (old 300 liter oak barrels).
Over the millennia, the Danube created a soil that is now rich in fertile humus. On the so-called alluvial plain, sediment was repeatedly deposited after floods. The very fertile upper layer consists of Danube gravel, which contains a lot of lime, is salty and mainly breathable.
These are ideal conditions for sensitive Burgundian varieties such as Pinot Noir, which tend to rot quickly on denser soils due to their thin skins.
