El Matt Croatina, Ricci, Piedmont, Italy
Description
Ricci’s El Matt Croatina is a powerful yet surprisingly elegant natural red wine from Piedmont (Colli Tortonesi, east of Alessandria). Daniele Ricci allows the local Croatina grape to speak in a ripe, full-bodied way, without polishing away its fresh acidity or refinement. The tannins provide grip but are ripe and soft. Aged in acacia wood.
- Vintage: 2021
- Grape: Croatina
- Maturation: 12 months in small acacia wood barrels
- Drink: now until 2031+
El Matt Croatina. Full-bodied red. Italian and headstrong
In the glass, you taste ripe dark fruit, spice, and a lovely, slightly robust tannin structure. Beautiful acidity keeps the wine lively and balances the full-bodied style. A characterful red wine with plenty of flavor. And: great value for money!
Fun fact:
Croatina is locally also known as Bonarda. However, this is not the same as the Bonarda from Oltrepò Pavese or Argentina and California (where it is called Charbono). That Bonarda (Douce noir) originally comes from the Savoie in France.
Natural wine from Daniele Ricci
Ricci farms organically and works as naturally as possible in the Colli Tortonesi (the hills of Tortona). The wines ferment with native yeasts and are made with minimal intervention.
