Riesling, empress among wine grapes
Riesling is for many connoisseurs the most beautiful wine grape in the world. Why? Because this grape variety gives so many variations in wines. From bone dry and fresh to sparkling to sultry and sweet. But always with striking acids.
At the beginning of the 20th century, German Rieslings in particular were the most expensive wines on earth , more expensive than Bordeaux or Burgundy. In Europe, Germany is still the most important country, followed by Austria and France (Alsace). But it is also found in Northern Spain and Australia, for example.
Terroir wine
Riesling ripens late and likes a cool climate. It is also a grape that can reflect the terroir where it is located. Terroir is not only the soil but the whole interplay of (micro)climate, exposure / location of the vineyards, planting density, slope, sunshine, temperature etc.
