Description

Blaufränkisch, Reinfeld, Burgenland. A full-bodied red wine from Blaufränkisch in Austria. Red wine from the friendly winemaker Martin Reinfeld from Burgenland. Blaufränkisch is primarily characterized by cherries and blackberries, and this wine has plenty of those! Also, chocolate, leather, violets, lovely acidity, and medium tannins. A delicious red wine with a bite. Also try his other wines, such as the Grüner Veltliner .

Blaufränkisch is also known as Lemberger and Limberger in Germany and as Kékfrankos in Hungary.

  • Serving: 15 °C
  • Drink: now until 2029

The soil of the Leithaberg vineyards consists of brown clay, ideal for Blaufränkisch. Clay retains water, ensuring the vines can find sufficient water even with little rainfall. The brown clay also contains a high iron content, giving this wine a fine and characteristic minerality. Martin Reinfeld aged this wine in used wooden barrels to prevent oak notes from overpowering the fruit.

Blaufränkisch, a unique wine grape from Austria

Along with St. Laurent , Blaufränkisch is an original Austrian grape. And what about Zweigelt ? It's better known, but it's a cross between St. Laurent and Blaufränkisch. Blaufränkisch produces deep red wines with plenty of dark fruit (blackberries, black cherries) and lovely notes of black olive, leather, ink, lead pencil, and violets. It can age well in oak, but it shouldn't be overpowering.

Interesting
Blaufränkisch is a typical Austrian grape. But you can also find it in Hungary, where it is called Kékfrankos and in Germany, in Württemberg. Blaufränkisch is also known as Lemberger. It flowers early, already in April and ripens late, early October. As a result, it can suffer from frost. Blaufränkisch is also sensitive to powdery mildew and downy mildew.
