Julia Bertram, a great wine talent from the Ahr

Julia Bertram is one of the greatest German wine talents of the moment, along with her husband Benedikt Baltes. All their wines are distinguished by their sublime elegance and refinement. This wine also boasts notes of wet forest, forest fruit, laurel, mushrooms, fine acidity, flint, and delicate tannins. A long finish.

This is a magnificently beautiful red wine from the Ahr region, grown on slate soil. Spontaneously fermented and unfiltered in the bottle. Further aged in large oak barrels. Organic natural wine.

In 2021, the narrow Ahr Valley flooded. Within fifteen minutes, 7 meters of water rose! This completely washed away the new wine cellar under construction at Rech (near Dernau). Almost the entire harvest, bottles, and wooden barrels also disappeared into the raging river. Even at their own house in Dernau, situated a bit higher and closer to the vineyards, the water reached a depth of 1.5 meters.

They are still busy rebuilding. Fortunately, the vineyards themselves were not affected.
