Florian Ehrlenbach is a super talent . He also worked at top-tier Horst Sauer in Franconia and Manincor in Alto Adige. Since 2017, he has also worked as vineyard manager at Paul Fürst in Franconia, a top 3 German Spätburgunder producer for decades. And now, he also runs his own winery. Florian is assisted by his brother Philipp. The authoritative wine guide Eichelmann immediately awarded the winery 2 stars:
The level is high - and the style is high, they are set with fresh and fruity, the wine is moderate in alcohol, comfortable with their taste, clean and comfortable.
With just 2.5 hectares of vineyards, Weingut Ehrlenbach is a tiny estate . Young winemakers Florian and Philipp Ehrlenbach took over the business from their parents. Since 2019, the brothers have been marketing their own wines. Before that, the grapes went to the local cooperative. But total production is small: just 5,000 bottles annually. The winery has also been officially organic since 2022.
The vineyards are located in the idyllic Tauber Valley , through which the narrow Tauber River meanders for 130 kilometers. This river flows through three different wine regions, and Florian and Philipp's vineyards are located in Baden and Franconia, southeast of Frankfurt.
Ideal soil of clay and limestone
The soil contains fossil-rich clay and limestone. Ideal for Spätburgunder, also known as Pinot Noir. But Schwarzriesling, also known as Pinot Meunier, also thrives here. The vineyards are situated relatively high (300 meters) and directly south-facing. Together, these create perfect conditions for producing fine wines from both grape varieties. There's plenty of sun for ripe grapes and sufficient nighttime cooling for excellent acidity.
Harvesting is done by hand, allowing for a strict selection process. The motto for vinification is " Finger away! " So, minimal intervention, no additives, only a few milligrams of sulfites after fermentation, well below the permitted EU standard. The wine is bottled unfiltered.
