Description
Rosé Spätburgunder Weißherbst, Bernhard, Rheinhessen. A beautiful German rosé wine made from Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). A strikingly beautiful balance between freshness and roundness. Creamy aroma of cherries and herbs. Soft and round on the palate, yet beautifully fresh with cherries and herbs. A lovely light salmon-pink hue. A delicious juice!
For the nerds: this wine comes from the Lage (vineyard) Volxheimer Alte Römerstraße. The Alte Römerstraße is classified as a "solar farm" and is located on a slope between Volxheim and Frei Laubersheim.
The vineyard is named after the old Roman road that runs alongside it. It's situated nearly 200 meters above sea level on a limestone-rich slate soil, forcing the vines to work hard to survive. This results in full-bodied, powerful, and flavorful wines.

Spätburgunder Weißherbst... eh?
Yes, we do need to explain that. Spätburgunder refers to a late-ripening Burgundy grape (spät = late). And that's simply the Pinot Noir grape. You probably already knew that. But what is Weißherbst?
Weißherbst or Weissherbst literally means "white harvest." It's the German term for light rosé wines. The grapes are only kept in the barrel for a short time, often just a few hours to half a day. As a result, they haven't yet released much color.
Winery Ch. W. Bernhard
This winery dates back to 1650! Now run by Hartmut and Petra, the 12th generation of the family business.
Cellar master Hartmut trained in Germany but also gained experience in Austria. His wife, Petra, is a wine engineer. They use a combination of traditional and modern techniques in their winemaking.
They cultivate 11 hectares of vineyards in Frei-Laubersheim. These are among the best in western Rheinhessen, near the Nahe wine region. The Romans cultivated figs, almonds, chestnuts, and especially wine here as early as 1,800 years ago.
