The Pinot Gris , planted in 1987, is located on the upper part of the Kapfensteiner Kogel . This volcanic vineyard, known for its balanced fruit and minerality, along with spontaneous fermentation in 300-liter oak barrels, followed by a harmonization period of nine months on the fine lees, form the basis for this structured wine.

The renowned wine magazine Falstaff said of this wine: "Light golden yellow, silver reflections. Delicate, delicate notes of yellow stone fruit, orange peel, a touch of blossom honey, hints of pear and apricot. The Winkler-Hermaden winery is situated atop an ancient volcano near the village of Kapfenstein . The castle at the summit is also a hotel with an excellent restaurant. The view is phenomenal! The vineyards surround the castle. They also have plots in the valley, near the village of Kloch.

The volcanic soil creates a unique style with abundant minerality in the wines. Try the sublime Sauvignon Blancs, for example. Winkler-Hermaden also has its own oak forests from which they make their wine barrels. The pores of the oak are so fine that their barrels are even better than the finest French wine barrels!
