Azores Wine Company, Pico, Portugal

Wine from volcanic islands
Azores Wine Company is located on Pico, one of the nine islands of the Azores in the Atlantic Ocean. Pico is an active volcano, and the vineyards are situated on black lava rock soils — one of the most extreme and unique wine terroirs in the world, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Arinto dos Açores
The main grape variety of Azores Wine Company is Arinto dos Açores, an indigenous variety perfectly adapted to the salty, windy Atlantic climate. The wines are distinctly fresh, mineral, and saline — with a vibrant acidity and a long, penetrating finish that is reminiscent of the ocean itself. Please note: this is not the same grape as the Arinto from the Portuguese mainland.
Unique and irreplaceable
Azorean wine is in a category of its own. The combination of volcanic soil, ocean climate, and indigenous grape varieties results in wines that cannot be produced anywhere else in the world.
