Giambagli, Corsica

Winemaker Giambagli produces the U San Muletto line in Corsica — named after the mule, the 'national' animal of Corsica and the only one capable of navigating the small, steep mountain paths. A nod to the island's quirky character.
The vineyards are located on poor granite and schist soils, ideal for balanced, characterful wines. Giambagli works with local Corsican grapes: Vermentino (known as Vermentinu in Corsica) for white, and Sciacciarellu, Niellucciu, and Cinsault for rosé.
Style
The white U San Muletto is rated an 8.5 by Hamersma and described by Perswijn as: fresh, apple, grapefruit, white blossom, juicy, good acidity, saline. The Andria Prestige rosé — also an 8.5 from Hamersma — is elegant with notes of redcurrant, strawberry, and raspberry, and a long finish. Delicious picnic and summer wines with more character than the price suggests.
