Les Vignes de Paradis, Dominique Lucas, Savoie, France

Nomen est omen: Les Vignes de Paradis — the vines of paradise. Winemaker Dominique Lucas farms his 12 ha of vineyards biodynamically in the Haute-Savoie, with a west-facing orientation and a stunning view of Lake Geneva.
Exceptional soil: moraine and granite
The poor soil consists of glacial moraines (moraine, granite) with plenty of calcareous sandstone — this yields beautifully delicately flavored fruit. Grapes are harvested in stages (tries) for perfect ripeness.
Chasselas: unexpectedly great
Chasselas typically produces neutral wines — but in the right hands, it is stunning. Lucas makes by far the finest Chasselas in France: tension, pure, mineral, long. Razor-fine acidity and bitters. Alpine freshness. The appellation is IGP Vin des Allobroges.
