Winemaker Andi Schneider, Felsenberg, Nahe, Germany

Nahe: granite and slate

Weingut KH Schneider is located in Bad Sobernheim on the Nahe, a tributary of the Rhine in Rhineland-Palatinate. The Nahe is one of Germany's most diverse wine regions — the soils range from granite and shale to volcanic rock, resulting in wines of great minerality and complexity.

Riesling from old vines

KH Schneider specializes in Riesling from old vines on steep, south-facing slopes. Some of these are GG sites, or Grand Cru level (GG stands for Grosse Gewächs). These include Felsenberg and Königfels near the well-known wine village of Schlossböckelheim. The wines from Andi Schneider are dry, precise, and piercingly mineral — with the typical combination of ripe citrus fruit, white flowers, and a long, taut finish that characterizes the Nahe. They also produce fine Spätburgunder.

All wine guides are full of praise for KH Schneider

Eichelmann, Vinum, and Falstaff all write glowingly about this winery. KH stands for Karl-Heinz, the grandfather of Andi Schneider, who is now the winemaker along with his brother.

Sustainable and terroir-driven

The estate works sustainably and with minimal intervention in the cellar. Each plot is vinified separately to preserve the unique character of every site.
