Weingut Mathias Wolf, Pfalz, Germany

The winemaking tradition of the Wolf family in Birkweiler (Pfalz) dates back to 1620 — when Hans Wolf laid the foundation. Today, the young Mathias Wolf shapes the wines with fresh ideas and centuries of family experience. Awarded 2 grapes by Gault-Millau since 2017. Eichelmann, Vinum, and Feinschmecker are also full of praise.
Famous Sites: Kastanienbusch and Mandelberg
The vineyards around Birkweiler include the famous sites of Kastanienbusch, Mandelberg, and Rosenberg — with limestone soils that give the wines extra tension and minerality.
Grauer Burgunder with skin contact
Hand-picked, then 8 hours of maceration on the skins, which provides a light pink hue and more flavor. Fermented in stainless steel. Ripe pear, herbs, citrus, playful roundness, and plenty of zip. Hamersma gives it a 9.
Wines from Mathias Wolf at Lekker Sapje
Grauer Burgunder vom Kalkstein — dry white Pinot gris with fine aromas and great drinkability. Now through 2028.
