Frei João Red Reserva, full-bodied red wine from Portugal by Caves São João in the DO Bairrada. Blend of local grapes Baga, Touriga Nacional and also some Petit Verdot. Red wine with a bite but certainly not too heavy. Full aroma and taste of black fruit, olive, wood, and spice. Elegant freshness. Truly a find!
Thanks to beautiful wood aging (6 months) and then another 18 months in concrete, this red wine has a nice balance between fruit and more mature notes. Reserva, meaning extra long aged in wood.

DOC Bairrada, highest wine region qualification in Portugal
Frei João Red Reserve is a beautiful red wine from Portugal. This Reserva wine comes from the DOC Bairrada, south of Porto. The local blue grape of Bairrada is the Baga, which normally has a lot of tannins. With this wine, that's not the case. Also in the blend: Touriga Nacional and Petit Verdot. Reserva means that the wine is made from better grapes and has been aged longer in wood.
Caves São João has a reputation to uphold with beautiful wines, including sparkling ones. Try those sometime too!
