Grauburgunder, Winkler-Hermaden, Vulkanland-Steiermark. A magnificent Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) from Winkler-Hermaden. This is how it can be done (it's a bit pricey, but oh well). Rich, exciting, with a natural wine vibe, pear, melon, minerality—truly special.
Beautiful now but can easily age even longer. Dry white wine, organic from Vulkanland-Styria in the far southeast of Austria. From the premier cru vineyard Ried Schlosskogel (known locally as 1st STK). A great wine.

Grandiose Grauburgunder from Austria.
The Winkler-Hermaden winery is situated atop an ancient volcano near the village of Kapfenstein. The castle also houses a hotel with an excellent restaurant. The view is phenomenal!
The volcanic soil creates a distinctive style with abundant minerality in the wines. Winkler-Hermaden also has its own oak forests from which they make their wine barrels. The pores of the oak are so fine that their barrels are even better than the finest French wine barrels!
