Sant Pere Negre, Valencia, Spain
Sant Pere is a local cooperative from Moixent, a wine village not far from Valencia. The entire village participates. The Romans were already making wine here, so the wine tradition here is more than 2000 years old.
The Monastrell grape is common here around Valencia and in neighboring wine regions such as DO Yecla and DO Jumilla. This dark-skinned grape produces robust and full-bodied red wines. Monastrell is also very well adapted to the often very high temperatures and drought.
Monastrell is also known in France as Mourvèdre. In France, it is mainly found in Languedoc and Provence. The famous Provence rosé from Bandol is made from it.
