Mencia, typical red wine for Bierzo

Mencia is the typical local grape for red wine in the DO Bierzo. This Pago de Valdoneje is a young wine without wood aging. From old vines. This wine is also deliciously fruity. But not as one-dimensional as many 'joven' wines.

This red wine is soft and full-bodied. Also with a very intriguing smell. The taste is captivating, long, fresh and quite complex. Thanks to those old sticks. It looks a bit like Cabernet franc. So beautiful red fruit, beautiful acidity, refined tannins. Also good filling. And a strikingly layered taste palette. Remarkably beautiful glass. But for no money!

Made under the supervision of the famous winemaker Raul Perez. Parker 91/100.

Viños Valtuille is a small 11-hectare bodega that makes quality Mencia wines on a small scale. The vineyards are between 50 and 100 years old. Winemaker and owner Marcos García Alba gets help and advice from childhood friend and fellow villager Raul Pérez. Raul Pérez is a very famous winemaker. Which makes some of the most sought-after (and most expensive) wines in Spain under its own name.
