Organic and biodynamic wines
Organic wine
Organic wine comes from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. Organic wine growers rely on natural methods to protect and nourish vineyards. For example, compost, green manure and natural insect control.
Biodynamic wine
Biodynamic wine goes a step further. The basis is anthroposophy , developed in the 1920s by the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner. He assumes that a vineyard is a living organism and that all elements in the environment are connected to each other. Biodynamic winegrowers keep this ecosystem in balance with natural means and methods.
Biodynamic viticulture:
Biodynamic winegrowers use preparations to feed soil and plants. They make these from natural ingredients. Such as herbs, minerals and animal substances. For example, cow manure, buried in a cow horn in the ground. This is dug up in the spring and poured out diluted in water to enrich the soil.
Biodynamic viticulture uses a specific calendar that follows the position of the moon and the planets. The phase of the moon determines the harvest and pruning.
