White wine made from 100% Zalema , a native grape. Found almost exclusively in the DO Condado de Huelva, Andalusia. The vines are over 60 years old and organically grown on 5 hectares of clay and loam soil.

Zalema Garay Bleu, a unique wine from Andalusia

Mario Garay and his wife, Ana Gonzalez, harvest the grapes by hand. After destemming, the grapes are gently pressed vertically. Spontaneous fermentation lasts 26 days in stainless steel. The Zalema wine is aged for nine months in used French oak barrels. It is then bottled unfiltered and sulfite-free.

Their wines showcase the salty ocean influence and the finesse of chalky soils. They flirt with an oxidative sherry style. We couldn't be more excited to import these wines!

Una historia romántica

Mario comes from the Bierzo region and has always worked in wine, but in administration. As a wine lover, his dream was to make his own wine. That opportunity only came when he met his wife, Ana, during a wine tour in Burgundy.

They fell in love and moved to her birthplace, La Palma del Condado, in the heart of the DO Condado de Huelva. What was a man from Bierzo doing in a city like La Palma? It was clear to Mario, but where did he get the money?

Then he was selected for a TV game show. When asked what he would do with the money, his answer was: buy a vineyard. Mario ultimately won €100,000 and bought three of the oldest vineyards in Huelva.
