Zalema Garay Bleu, Condado de Huelva. Natural wine . Vegan wine without sulphites . Golden color. Ripe white fruit, honey, cider, licorice and orange zest with a rich and creamy mouthfeel. Long finish with salty accents that make this wine unique.

White wine from 100% Zalema , an indigenous grape. Almost exclusively found in DO Condado de Huelva, Andalusia. Vines are 60+ years old and organically grown on 5ha of clay and loam soils.

Zalema Garay Bleu, unique wine from Andalusia

Mario Garay and his wife Ana Gonzalez harvest by hand. After destemming, the grapes are gently pressed vertically. Spontaneous fermentation of 26 days on stainless steel. The Zalema wine matures for 9 months on used French oak barrels. Then bottled unfiltered and without sulphites.

Their wines show the salty ocean influence and the finesse of chalky soils. The wines flirt with an oxidative sherry style. We couldn't be more excited to import these wines!

A romantic story

Mario comes from the Bierzo region and always worked in wine, but in administration. As a wine lover, his dream was to make wine himself. That opportunity came when he met his wife Ana during a wine trip in Burgundy.

They fell in love and moved to her birthplace La Palma del Condado, in the heart of the DO Condado de Huelva. What was a man from Bierzo going to do in a town like La Palma? It was 'claro' for Mario, but where did he get the money from?

Then he was selected for a TV game show. And when asked what he would do with the money, his answer was: buy a vineyard. Mario eventually won €100k and bought 3 of the oldest vineyards in Huelva.
