Dornfelder, a so-called Teinturier. Eh?

This wine is made from Dornfelder, a typical German grape not often found in other countries. It's recognizable by its deep purple-red hue and abundant black fruit (blackberries). Dornfelder is a so-called Teinturier ; a grape with red juice (normally clear). This ensures the wine retains its purple-red color for a long time. Other red wines, over the years, turn from purple-red to tile-red. In very old wines, the color can almost disappear.

Rheinhessen is Germany's largest contiguous wine region. It produces a lot of bulk wine. But there are also some excellent winemakers here and there. Especially around the Rhine village of Nierstein, with its famous Lage Roter Hang. Also near Alzey—where STorr is located—you'll find several villages and towns with top winemakers like Keller.
