Description
Douro Tinto, Maçanita, Douro, Portugal . Fine dry red wine from the Douro (famous for its Port). Red wine from Portugal. A mouthful of wine! Lots of flavor and aroma of blackberries, cherries, and violets, with hints of pencil shavings. From Touriga Nacional (50-year-old vines), Sousao (10 years), and "Old Vineyards," a field blend of various ancient (80+) and unknown grape varieties mixed together. Partly aged in oak (old barriques).
All this gives this Portuguese wine concentration and depth. The grapes are hand-picked, spontaneously fermented, and aged partly in oak (12 months) and partly in stainless steel. Dry red wine. Portuguese wine. Specifically, from the Douro wine region, known for its red and white port.

Maçanita, Portugal's best winemaker
The winemakers at Maçanita are ambitious, and it's paid off. In 2022, they were named Portugal's best winery. They produce wines from several regions, with the Douro being the most important. But they also make very special and unique wines from the Azores, and we still have a few bottles of those!
