Gamonal is a superb red wine. Made from 100% Prieto Picudo , a local red grape from the León region in northern Spain. Compared to many standard Tempranillos, this is more exciting and fresh. A Pietro Picudo aged in French and American oak for 12 months. A truly classy wine for the price . Spanish wine.

DO Tierra de Leon, emerging wine region

This relatively recent (2005) DO is located between Bierzo and Toro, just south of the city of Léon. Tierra de Léon unites three smaller wine regions. The vineyards are primarily situated on plateaus of approximately 800 meters. The alluvial soil is poor, but it does contain minerals and limestone.

In summer, it's really hot. But because of the altitude and the relatively northerly location within Spain, it also cools down considerably at night. This is precisely what creates those wonderful acidic flavors. Winters are also cold. With only 500mm of rain per year, it's relatively dry.

Wine has been produced here for centuries. In the historic town of Valdevimbre, there are ancient, hand-dug caves where wine is still stored. Some of the caves now house charming restaurants, attracting wine lovers from far and wide.

Pardevalles Winery

Just outside Valdevimbre lies the Pardevalles winery. They produce some of the best wines in Tierra de Léon. In Tierra de Léon, the winemakers primarily work with two local grape varieties: Prieto Picudo for red and rosé, and Albarin for white.
