Pinot Noir Satzen Reserve, Malat 2017. Classic Pinot Noir, but from Kremstal, Austria. A great wine ! Red wine with ripe red and black fruit, a light smoky note, refined oak use, and ripe tannins. Malat pairs well with Veltliner and Riesling, and its Pinot Noirs are also excellent. Also try the Pinot Noir Ried Satzen.

Pinot Noir Satzen Reserve, the red empress of Malat
For Malat, this wine is his red empress. A truly great wine. The "regular" wine from the Ried (vineyard) Satzen is his queen (we also have that wine). The grapes are hand-picked. Fermentation is spontaneous and temperature-controlled. After malolactic fermentation, it is aged for 12-18 months in large oak barrels (old 300-liter oak barrels).
Over the millennia, the Danube created a soil that is now rich in fertile humus. Sediment was repeatedly deposited on the so-called alluvial plain after floods. The highly fertile topsoil consists of Danube gravel, which is rich in lime, silty, and particularly permeable.
These are ideal conditions for sensitive Burgundian varieties such as Pinot Noir, which tend to rot quickly on denser soils due to their thin skins.
