Sant Pere Negre, Valencia, Spain
Sant Pere is a local cooperative from Moixent, a wine village near Valencia. The entire village participates. The Romans were already making wine here, so the winemaking tradition is over 2,000 years old.
The Monastrell grape is widely found here and in neighboring wine regions like Yecla and Jumilla. It produces robust, full-bodied red wines and is well-suited to high temperatures and dry conditions.
Monastrell is also known in France as Mourvèdre . It is found primarily in the Languedoc and Provence regions. The famous Provence rosé from Bandol is made from it.
