Spätburgunder Forstberg Erste Lage . This dry red wine from wine talent Julia Bertram combines coolness with delicate floral notes and fine forest fruits. Redcurrants, strawberries, and also dark fruits like cherries and blackcurrants. Light spicy notes, a hint of smoke. Juicy, ripe, and mineral, tannins provide backbone and bite, while acidity balances all the layers. A complex wine with a long finish. Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) from the Ahr region is classified as Erste Lage ( Premier Cru ).

Spätburgunder Forstberg Erste Lage

The Lage Ahrweiler Forstberg lies between the villages of Ahrweiler and Bad Neuenahr, on the north side of the Ahr River. The vineyards are situated higher up on the slopes, facing south. Adjacent to it is the equally renowned Lage Rosenthal, where Bertram-Baltes also produces wine.
The Forstberg has a soil of slate (from the Devonian) with sandstone and loam (Grauwacke). The Spätburgunder vines are now over 40 years old and from an Ahr clone locally called "Stuber," planted by Julia Bertram's grandfather.

Uncleared, unfiltered

Spontaneous fermentation and maturation take place in large, old German oak casks (foeders), 50% of which are new. After 15 months in oak, the wine rests for another 3 months in stainless steel. Like all Bertram-Baltes wines, the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered . Bertram-Baltes has been a certified organic winery since the 2019 harvest.

Powerful and at the same time subtle Spätburgunder at Grand Cru level (GG, Grosses Gewächs) from the Lage Ahrweiler Forstberg. This red wine is one of the showpieces of Julia Bertram-Baltes from Dernau in the Ahr. Very refined play of currant, strawberry, earthiness, fine wood, leather and herbs, freshness and minerality. Complex wine that is now drinking beautifully. Serve: 14 C. Drink: now until 2026+

Delicious with
Actually, you should drink this 'neat'. But red game, spiced chicken, merguez sausages or classic sauerkraut and stew go very well with this.

Interesting
Julia Bertam and Benedikt Baltes are a royal couple in the Ahr. In 2021, they were hit by the devastating flood and their wine cellar under construction disappeared in the swirling waves. The entire harvest and stock of 2020 also washed away. Now Julia and Benedikt are working their socks off to make wine at their high level again. Fortunately, the vineyards are still intact.
