Monastrell (Mourvèdre) and Syrah
Monastrell is the grape for red wine in the Yecla wine region. It is hot here - continental climate - with fortunately cooling down at night. That keeps freshness in the wine. Monastrell feels perfectly at home in Yecla and gives full and tough wines. The grape is also known in Languedoc and Provence as Mourvèdre. For example, the famous Bandol wine (red and rosé) is made from it.
Syrah (or Shiraz) is a well-known Rhône grape. You can recognize it by white pepper, cherries and blackberries. Syrah also produces strong wines with a lot of power. Syrah can also withstand the heat well.
This red wine comes from the DO Yecla in Spain (near Valencia and Alicante) and is from Winery On, specialists in Monastrell. They work sustainably and are in conversion to organic. The vineyards are at 300-600 m. Winery On harvest by hand.
