Scheurebe Alte Reben, Hans Wirsching 1st Lage Kronsberg, Franconia
Description
Scheurebe Alte Reben, dry white wine of winery Hans Wirsching from Franconia, Germany. Super Scheurebe shall we say. Hans Wirsching is one of the best German winemakers in Scheurebe.
Regular Scheurebe is fresh and fruity and above all tasty. This Scheurebe wine from old vines (Alte Reben) also has enormous depth. Lychee, maracuja, citrus, soft and exciting. Top wine. From the 1st Lage Kronsberg. So white wine at premier cru level. In the famous Bocksbeutel bottle.
- Serving: 10 °C
- Drinking: now until 2029
Scheurebe, the German Sauvignon blanc?
Scheurebe looks a bit like Sauvignon blanc and also has those dusty aromas. But especially tropical fruits such as grapefruit, maracuja and also blackcurrants.
Georg Scheu
Scheurebe is named after Georg Scheu who developed the Scheurebe in 1916 as a cross between Riesling and Silvaner* in the famous Landesanstalt für Rebenzüchtung in Alzey, Rheinhessen. Here he developed several new grape varieties that build up enough sugars in a - then - cool climate. Other examples are Huxelrebe, Würzer (we have both of those wines too!) and Kanzler.
*After recent DNA analysis, it turned out that it is not Silvaner but the so-called Bukettraube aka Silvaner Musqué. This is itself a cross between Silvaner and the red Trollinger. And Trollinger is also known as Vernatsch and Schiava in Alto Adige / Südtirol. Just so you know!
