Description
Scheurebe Alte Reben , a dry white wine from the Hans Wirsching winery in Germany. We'd call it a "super Scheurebe." Hans Wirsching, a top winery from Franconia, is one of the best German winemakers of Scheurebe.
Regular Scheurebe is fresh and fruity, and above all, delicious. This Scheurebe wine from old vines (Alte Reben) also has enormous depth. Lychee, passion fruit, citrus, soft and exciting. A top-notch wine. From the 1st Lage Kronsberg . So, a white wine at premier cru level . In the familiar Bocksbeutel bottle.

Scheurebe, the German Sauvignon Blanc?
Scheurebe is somewhat similar to Sauvignon Blanc and also has those vibrant aromas, but primarily of tropical fruits like grapefruit, passion fruit, and blackcurrant.
Scheurebe is named after Georg Scheu, who developed Scheurebe in 1916 as a cross between Riesling and Silvaner* at the renowned Landesanstalt für Rebenzüchtung in Alzey, Rheinhessen. There, he developed several new grape varieties that, despite what was then a cool climate, still produced sufficient sugars. Other examples include Huxelrebe, Würzer (we have both of those too!), and Kanzler.
*Recent DNA analysis revealed that it wasn't Silvaner, but the so-called Bukettraube, aka Silvaner Musqué. This is itself a cross between Silvaner and the red Trollinger. And Trollinger is also known as Vernatsch and Schiava in Alto Adige/Südtirol. So you know!
