Tissot, Poulsard Sur Lias

Unfortunately, many Poulsard Jura wines are light and sparse, with a light, rosé-like hue. However, in the hands of a top winemaker like Tissot, Poulsard reaches great heights. Tissot keeps yields low. The very old vines don't yield much anyway. The plantings are also very dense, so each vine has to work extra hard. He also practices biodynamic farming .

Then there's the soil, Lias , after which the wine is named. Lias rock layers date back to the Lower Jurassic period, 205-175 million years old. They cover a large area of Western Europe. The poor soils contain dark shale, clay, marl, and limestone. This gives this red wine its beautiful tension and minerality.

Poulsard, an outsider with enormous refinement

Poulsard or Ploussard is a typical blue grape variety from the Jura region. The skin is thin and releases little color or tannin during maceration. Therefore, the maceration process should be prolonged to achieve perfect extraction of the delicate floral and red fruit aromas.
Due to its thin skin and early bud break in spring, Poulsard is quite susceptible to disease and frost. This therefore requires close supervision from the winemaker.
