Tissot, Poulsard Sur Lias

Unfortunately, many Jura wines from Poulsard are light and lean, with a light rosé-like hue. However, in the hands of a top winemaker like Tissot, Poulsard rises to great heights. Tissot keeps the yields low. The very old vines do not yield much anyway. The planting is also very dense. So each vine has to do its best. He also works biodynamically .

Then the soil, Lias , after which the wine is named. Lias rock layers date back to the Lower Jurassic period, 205 - 175 million years old. It covers a large area in Western Europe. The poor soils contain dark shale, clay, marl and limestone. This gives this red wine that beautiful tension and minerality.

Poulsard, an outsider with enormous refinement

Poulsard or Ploussard is a typical blue grape for the Jura. The skin is thin and gives off little colour and tannins when macerated. This maceration can therefore be left for quite a long time to achieve perfect extraction of the delicate floral and red fruit aromas.
Due to a thin skin and an early sprout in the spring, Poulsard is quite sensitive to diseases and frost. This therefore requires a lot of control by the winemaker.
