Acolon Classic, rare grape

You don't have to be ashamed if you've never heard of Acolon. The grape is extremely rare and a special feature. It is a cross between two other grape varieties: Dornfelder and Blaufränkisch. Dornfelder is quite well-known and widely planted in Germany. It is a so-called teinturier , a grape with red juice. Normally it is colorless) This Acolon also has a deep purple-red hue.

You may know Blaufränkisch. This is a well-known grape from Austria. It is also found in Hungary, where it is called Kékfrankos. Other synonyms are Lemberger and Limberger. Blaufränkisch also produces deep red wine, but it is not a teinturier.

And Classic , what does that mean? You will find the addition Classic in Germany with wines that are made according to local wine growing regulations. It is always a dry wine . In Austria they also use the term but then written as Klassik.

Delicious with
Roe deer, venison (red deer), spiced wild boar, roast lamb, grilled dishes, wild duck.

Interesting
Acolon is a 1971 cross between Lemberger and Dornfelder. Rare now. Ripens better than the Lemberger (aka Blaufränkisch). Because the Dornfelder is a teinturier (juice and pulp are red) Acolon has a deep purple-red color.
