Description

Pinot Noir Asselheim, Matthias Gaul, Palatinate . A beautiful, stylish diva. A balanced Spätburgunder that pampers the palate with elegant finesse. Full-bodied and smooth, with cherries, wet forest, and soft tannins. The combination of soft fruit and fresh minerality also creates tension. A dry red wine from Germany, but from the cooler northern Palatinate. From stony and chalky soil, which deepens the flavors.

Pinot Noir Asselheim, Matthias Gaul, Palatinate. Winner at Perswijn

A magnificent Pinot Noir from wine talent Matthias Gaul. Wine magazine Vinum and wine guide Eichelmann are enthusiastic about Gaul. Perswijn named it the finest Spätburgunder in its price range. From stony, limestone soil with clay. Also from select vineyards in Asselheim, situated at an altitude of approximately 200 meters and facing south.

Vineyard and harvest

Gaul halves the grape bunches on the vine to promote better air circulation between the individual berries, thus improving quality. He also performs additional hand selection and thinning during the ripening process, directly on the vine. The final selection takes place during the harvest, which is done manually in small containers in the fall.

Vinification

Traditional open fermentation method, in which the must (juice and grape skins) is regularly immersed by hand with a pestle (pigeage). After fermentation, the wine is aged for at least 12 months in French barriques (225 liters), which can be new or up to five years old.

Taste
This award winning red wine is typical Pinot Noir: cherry, strawberry, earthy, forest, soft tannins and fine acidity. Long finish.

Delicious with
Charcuterie, ham, chicken roll, lamb, grilled vegetables, tagines, pasta with tomato.

Interesting
Spätburgunder is the German variant of Pinot Noir. Often recognizable by its smokiness. But more and more German winemakers are planting French clones and then the wine is called Pinot Noir.
