Domaine Borgeot. Good enough for Harrods

The Borgeot brothers, Pascal and Laurent , are fourth-generation winemakers. The future looks bright for this 1903 estate as well, with the introduction of the talented Julia Borgeot , Pascal's daughter. The famous luxury department store Harrod's in London also carries their wines.

Pascal and Laurent Borgeot also have a great touch with Chardonnay. They also make classic and distinctive village and premier cru wines in Burgundy's "golden triangle": Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet , and Meursault .

The winery itself is located in Rémigny , a village not officially part of the Côte d'Or. However, their vineyards in Santenay and other appellations across the street are. Borgeot has 48 hectares, half red and half white. Most of the vines are 30 years old or older, with parcels of Santenay "Les Gravières" and Santenay "Vieilles Vignes" being over 50 years old.

Careful winemaking

For over twenty years, their vines have been fed only organic fertilizer. They till the soil in winter to suppress weeds and increase microbial activity. Where they have replanted, they have chosen low-yielding vines. All these measures are aimed at bringing the harvest to full and perfect ripeness every year.

Handcrafted Pinot Noir

Hand-picking and sorting prevents unnecessary stems and leaves in the must. The grapes are then completely destemmed, again to prevent green tannins. Vinification is "traditional," meaning cold maceration for 10 to 12 days prior to fermentation.

The must is pumped over the floating grape hood and pierced (pigeage) twice a day. A modern pneumatic press and temperature control play a crucial role in the wine's outcome. The goal is to preserve the fruitiness while simultaneously highlighting the individual minerality of the different plots.

All wines, except Aligoté, are aged in oak. The age of the barrels depends on the wine and the vintage (25% new oak is average). After light filtration, the wines are bottled under anaerobic conditions.
