Douro, also interesting for dry wines
The Douro (pronounced: doroe) is of course best known for its red and white port, which are fortified wines. It is a beautiful wine region with steep slopes and the Douro river that flows from Spain to Porto and into the Atlantic Ocean. In Spain, the river is called Duero, known for the Ribero del Duero wine region.
For about 10 years now, dry 'regular' wines have also been coming from the higher parts of the Douro, so against the Spanish border. The sale of Port is declining and what do you do then as a winemaker? You make 'regular' wines. You also see this in the Armagnac regions in south-west France. Fortunately, those Douro wines are often very nice. This DR Tinto is a good example. Also try the DR Tinto Reserva.
