Douro, also interesting for dry wines
The Douro (pronounced: doroe) is of course best known for red and white port, which are fortified wines. It is a beautiful wine region with steep slopes and the Douro river that flows from Spain to Porto and empties into the Atlantic Ocean. In Spain, the river is called Duero, known from the Ribero del Duero wine region.
For about 10 years now, dry 'regular' wines have also been coming from the higher parts of the Douro, so close to the Spanish border. Port sales are declining, and what do you do as a winemaker then? You make 'regular' wines. But fortunately, these Douro wines are often very beautiful. This DR Tinto is a good example. Also try the DR Tinto Reserva.
Quinta da Levandeira is part of the Agri Ronçao winery.
