Description

Grauer Burgunder, Mathias Wolf, Pfalz. Really delicious Grauer Burgunder (Pinot gris) vom Kalkstein from the young winemaker Mathias Wolf. This dry wine has fine aromas of ripe pear, herbs and citrus fruits. The first sip reveals two things: A: there is a lot of fun in the glass! And B: exciting white wine (light pink hue) with playful roundness and a lot of spice. Hamersma gives this white wine a nice 9 .

Mathias Wolf, modest winemaker with great class

The wine-growing tradition of the Wolf family in Birkweiler (Pfalz) goes back a long way, to the year 1620. That was when Hans Wolf laid the foundation stone for the winery. Today, the young winemaker Mathias Wolf shapes the wines.
Thanks to its fresh ideas and the centuries-old experience of the old family business, the Wolf winery has been awarded 2 bunches by Gault-Millau since 2017. Well-known wine guides and wine magazines such as Eichelmann and Feinschmecker are also full of praise.

Grauer Burgunder from famous Lagen: Kastanienbusch and Mandelberg

The vineyards of the Weingut Wolf are located around the old town of Birkweiler. Here you will find the famous Lagen Kastanienbusch, Mandelberg and Rosenberg. This Grauer Burgunder is at Gutswein level and comes from different plots with limestone in the soil. The grapes are also hand-picked and are macerated for 8 hours (maceration or Maischestandzeit ). This ensures a light pink hue from the grape skins and more flavor. Fermentation then follows in stainless steel vats.
