Macvin du Jura, Domaine Labet. Fantastic fortified dessert wine. Chardonnay. Warm and fresh, ripe apple and pear, quince, apricot, orange zest, caramel. And that characteristic buttery Chardonnay note. But Macvin isn't officially a wine. Because it's not fermented. So this is a so-called mistelle . Unfermented grape juice is mixed with Marc du Jura (distilled from grape skins). The result is slightly sweet, harmonious, and approximately 17.5% alcohol.

The Chardonnay for this fortified dessert wine comes from 65-year-old vines. This Labet Macvin was also aged for five years in 300-liter oak casks. Another interesting fact: this wine is from the Les Exaltés series.

Jura, a wine region rich in tradition

The Jura is a relatively small wine region: approximately 2,000 hectares. Yet it boasts a very old winemaking tradition, with a wide variety of styles. Macvin is one of them. Another well-known example is Vin Jaune.

Labet, legendary winery

Domaine Labet, located in Rotalier in the southern Jura region (Sud-Révermont), is one of the finest Jura wine producers . This small wine region, east of Burgundy, is relatively unknown. Today, Jura wines, especially those from the best winemakers, are highly sought after worldwide .

Close to nature

Domaine Labet used to produce wines in the classic style. These days, they're increasingly making natural wines (which is actually even more classic, of course). Labet operates entirely organically, with a separate line of biodynamic and natural wines . Julien learned his craft at Domaine Ramonet in Chassagne-Montrachet and Hamilton Russell Winery in South Africa (both excellent wineries).

Labet wines are world-renowned and sought-after, and are mainly sold by allocation.
