Uh, Frühburgunder?
Frühburgunder ripens earlier than Spätburgunder. And is also known as Pinot Madeleine in France. The grapes for this wine come from very steep slopes near the village of Marienthal, along the Ahr river.
Sermann Winery, Ahr
Weingut Sermann in Altenahr has existed since 1775. Yet it is considered one of the most modern wineries in the Ahr. The Ahr is one of the northernmost wine regions in Germany. Then you mainly think of white wine. But the Ahr is famous for red. And then especially Spätburgunder. So Pinot noir.
The Eifel keeps cold westerly winds at bay. And the Ahr valley itself is sheltered and deeply eroded. Plus: the slate slopes to the south make the Ahr quite warm. Which makes it just right for Pinot Noir. The Ahr wines have a distinctly unique style. And that equals many top Burgundies these days.
