Pinot Noir Satzen, the queen of Malat

For Malat, the Pinot Noir Ried Satzen is his red queen. A wine that only gets better with age. So those who are patient can count themselves lucky! The Ried (vineyard) Satzen is predestined for Burgundian wines. The strong influence of the Danube over the millennia has given a soil that is today very rich in humus. Because the alluvial plain here has been able to collect sediment again and again during floods.

The very fertile topsoil is in turn formed by a layer of Danube gravel, which is very calcareous, salty and above all permeable to air. The ideal conditions for sensitive Burgundian varieties such as Pinot Noir, which, due to their thin skin, would tend to rot on denser soils.
