Portugieser, Storr, Rheinhessen

Light, smooth red wine from Germany. Wine from Portugieser grape. Portugieser is similar to Pinot Noir but tastes spicier. It is quite light in color. Also delicious when chilled. Almost no tannins so nice and soft. This red wine comes from the Rheinhessen wine region in wine country Germany. Wine from Storr winery.

The name Portugieser naturally raises questions. Does he come from Portugal? At first it was thought not. In any case, he ended up in Germany via Austria. In Austria itself, you only see him sporadically. Recent DNA research seems to indicate that he does indeed originally come from Portugal.

More information about this delicious juice

Taste
Fruity nose: strawberry and cherry, spicy taste, pepper, fresh and light (12.5%). Resembles Pinot Noir. Also very tasty when chilled. Serve at 14-16 °C. Drink: now until 2024.

Delicious with
Hard cheeses, quail, pigeon, rabbit. Also goes well with (fried) fish due to the almost absent tannins.

Interesting
The origin of the Portugieser is not entirely clear. Via Austria, where it is mentioned in the 18th century, it was brought to Germany in the 19th century. There is (as yet) no known link with Portugal. Classic means that the wine is dry.
