This Riesling Ortswein is magnificent, especially for the price. Hans Wirsching is among the top three wineries in Franconia. Hans Wirsching is located in the village of Iphofen, and north of it lie their top vineyards—Kalb, Kronsberg, Kammer, and Julius-Echter-Berg. Wirsching is a VDP member and therefore uses the classifications of Gutswein, Ortswein, 1st Lage (premier cru), and Grosses Gewächs (GG, grand cru). This is comparable to the Burgundy classification.
