Roter Veltliner is a unique white grape.

The Roter Veltliner Ried Steinberg from Ecker is worth discovering. Dry wine with tension, roundness, minerality, and length. The Wagram wine region primarily has an alluvial (deposited by the Danube) fertile loess-loam soil. But here and there, there is a stony hill, such as the Steinberg. The much poorer soil here provides extra tension and minerality in the wine.

Wine from the Roter Veltliner grape. Roter Veltliner is a unique white grape. Which you'll find almost exclusively in the Wagram wine region (formerly Donauland, northwest of Vienna), in Austria. The winemaker is the talented Bernhard Ecker. Ried means vineyard.

Roter Veltliner is an ancient grape variety (more than 2000 years old) and not related to Grüner Veltliner. Why both grape varieties are called Veltliner is a great mystery.

In a British review about Ecker's Roter Veltliner: 'The top location Großweikersdorfer Steinberg, located at 320m above sea level facing south-east, with its warm days and cool nights, offers the best conditions to deliver something really big.' Now you know.
