Spätburgunder Treibgut, Bertram-Baltes, Ahr , Germany. Unique red wine from the Ahr. This is a blend of bottles found after the flood of 2021. This also included Grosses Gewächs wines (GG / Grand Cru)! Gone is gone. The wines are from 2020.

This wine has ripe black cherry, plum, wild strawberry, wet forest, spiciness. Medium tannins and fine freshness. Nicely layered and long.

Spätburgunder Treibgut, unique wine fished out of the Ahr

Within fifteen minutes the water was 7 meters high at the village of Dernau. Because the Ahr burst from its banks with a big flood wave, after days of heavy rain. This normally small river was in no time a seething mass. That dragged everything that was loose and fixed with it.

The newly built wine cellar of Julia Bertram and her husband Benedikt Baltes was swallowed up in one fell swoop by the raging river. So the entire 2020 harvest was gone...
Later Julia and Benedikt found all sorts of bottles along the banks of the Ahr, under the mud. Then each one was individually inspected and after approval went into a new blend: Treibgut. This contains Spätburgunder wines from GG-Lagen (Grosse Gewächs / Grand Cru) such as Hardtberg and Rosenthal. And you can taste it!
