Spätburgunder Treibgut, Bertram-Baltes, Ahr , Germany. Unique red wine from the Ahr. This is a blend of bottles recovered after the 2021 flood. Among them were Grosses Gewächs wines (GG/Grand Cru)! While supplies last, they're gone. These wines are from 2020.

This wine has ripe black cherry, plum, wild strawberry, wet forest, and spice. Medium tannins and a fine freshness. Beautifully layered and long. 95 points from Falstaff.

Spätburgunder Treibgut, a unique wine retrieved from the Ahr

Within fifteen minutes, the water rose to 7 meters near the village of Dernau. The Ahr River burst its banks in a massive tidal wave after days of heavy rain. This normally small river quickly became a churning mass, sweeping away everything it could find.

Thus, the newly built wine cellar of Julia Bertram and her husband Benedikt Baltes was swallowed up in a single fell swoop by the raging river. So the entire 2020 harvest was gone...
Later, Julia and Benedikt found all sorts of bottles buried in mud along the banks of the Ahr River. Each one was then individually inspected and, once approved, incorporated into a new blend: Treibgut (drift goods). This blend includes Spätburgunder wines from GG-Lagen (Grosse Gewächs / Grand Cru) such as Hardtberg and Rosenthal. And you can taste it!
