Tissot, Chardonnay Les Bruyères, Jura. Phenomenal Arbois Chardonnay, single-vineyard Les Bruyères. This is one of the dazzling single-vineyard Chardonnays from winemaker Stéphane Tissot . A truly grand wine , with enormous complexity. Many Burgundy winemakers will be envious! Deep, mineral, and very long.

Fermented and aged in 228-liter oak barrels for 24 months, with 20% new wood. The chalky clay soil produces rich, large Chardonnay wines with plenty of breadth and fullness. It's also beautifully dry with a superb balance between reduction and aging. Furthermore, it's magnificently complex, with a crispness and minerality. Full of ripe yellow fruit such as yellow apple and pear, and rich in spices. Only 5,000 bottles produced.

Chardonnay Les Bruyères, small vineyard, big wine

Les Bruyères is an old vineyard with marl and clay, and a subsoil of blue marl (Triassic, 250-200 million years old). This clay soil produces richer, larger wines with more volume. The south-facing clay-limestone terroir of Les Bruyères is planted with old Chardonnay vines (50-80+) in the Jura appellation of Arbois. This vineyard is less than a hectare in size.

Domaine A&M Tissot, rich history

The wine estate, now managed by Stéphane Tissot and his wife Bénédicte, was founded in 1962 by André and Mireille Tissot in Montigny-Les-Arsures near Arbois. Their vineyards now cover 50 hectares, farmed organically since 1999 and biodynamically (Demeter certification) since 2004. This allows Stéphane Tissot to get the most out of his vines and to produce numerous cuvées that best reflect the different terroirs.
André and Mireille Tissot started in 1962 with two small hectares of vines, which André had inherited from his father. To distinguish himself from his three brothers, also winemakers, André added his wife Mireille's first name to the winery. A minor detail perhaps, but it was an important gesture in the macho 1960s.

Long struggle with his father

In 1989, his son Stéphane completed his viticultural studies in Beaune. This globetrotting expert, who spent considerable time in Australia and North Africa, is taking over the wine estate. His Burgundian training, combined with a perfect understanding of the rich Jura terroir and its soils, enabled him to quickly apply a terroir-specific style to his winemaking. This is how Curon, Château-Chalon, Les Bruyères , and La Mailloche were born.
Stéphane is constantly searching for ways to let the terroir shine through in his wines. This quest for authenticity led him to organic viticulture. After a long struggle with his father, Stéphane succeeded in implementing his philosophy in 1999. Official biodynamic Demeter certification followed five years later. Every effort is made to produce the purest wines possible.
Stéphane Tissot is the name people associate with Jura wines. This is because he is a benchmark for local styles and grape varieties, a torchbearer for the natural wine movement, and a source of wines that have brought the Jura into the global wine discourse. That's why 'Les Bruyères' was the single-vineyard wine that inspired renowned winemaker Guillaume d'Angerville (Volnay, Burgundy) to start making wine in the Jura and launch Domaine du Pélican.
