Zweigelt, Winkler-Hermaden, Vulkanland-Steiermark, Austria . Very good Zweigelt from the Winkler-Hermaden winery. With full aromas and flavors of cherries, herbs, leather and some tobacco. Beautiful ripe style, Gamay-like full. Now still quite firm in terms of tannins and yet also light-footed. Matured on oak from our own forests. A really beautiful Zweigelt wine. Organic dry red wine from Austria.
Dry red Austrian wine comes from the heavenly beautiful wine region Vulkanland-Steiermark . This is located in the far southeast of Austria and borders Hungary and Croatia. The Winkler-Hermaden winery is located on top of an old volcano. The vineyards are on the slopes, some further away. The soil is volcanic and contains many minerals such as olivine .
Organic wine . Winkler-Hermaden always releases this red wine after 2 years of maturation.
Zweigelt is a cross between the typical Austrian grape varieties Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent. Grown by Fritz Zweigelt at the Wine Institute of Klosterneuburg near Vienna, in 1922.
