Description
Grauer Burgunder, Mathias Wolf, Pfalz. A truly delicious Grauer Burgunder (Pinot Gris) from Kalkstein from young winemaker Mathias Wolf. This dry wine has delicate aromas of ripe pear, herbs, and citrus. The first sip reveals two things: A: there's a lot of joy in the glass! And B: an exciting white wine (light pink hue) with playful roundness and plenty of zest. Hamersma gives this white wine a respectable 9 out of 10 .

Mathias Wolf, a modest winemaker with great class
The Wolf family's winemaking tradition in Birkweiler (Palatinate) goes back far, to 1620. That's when Hans Wolf laid the foundation stone for the winery. Today, the young winemaker Mathias Wolf shapes the wines.
Thanks to its fresh ideas and the centuries-old experience of the family business, the Wolf winery has been awarded two bunches by Gault Millau since 2017. Renowned wine guides and magazines such as Eichelmann, Vinum , and Feinschmecker have also expressed their praise.
Grauer Burgunder from famous Lagen: Kastanienbusch and Mandelberg
The vineyards of Weingut Wolf are located around the historic town of Birkweiler. Here you'll find the famous Lagen Kastanienbusch, Mandelberg, and Rosenberg. This Grauer Burgunder is Gutswein-level and comes from various plots with limestone soils.
The grapes are also hand-picked and macerated for eight hours ( maischestandzeit ). This produces a light pink hue from the grape skins and enhances the flavor. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel vats.
